Interesting article, "The Break Even Immigrant". Can you do an assessment of whether the findings (i.e., that Canadian immigrants need to earn more to "pay for themselves" than in the UK, US, et al.) is specific to immigrants, or a much broader result of Canada providing richer benefits to all seniors and retirees? I would suggest that how seniors benefit from Canada's tax/welfare system much more than younger generations is an even bigger policy challenge than immigration benefits alone.

and, how many are put up in hotels downtown. I know someone who immigrated here many moons ago she worked in the hotels downtown cleaning up etc... they housed refugees downtown she used to shake her head. How is it I came here only to find drunken fools leaving a good teaching job overseas only to clean toilets now and I find this, cleaning up housed people in downtown nice hotels. She liked the harper years now she finds we are leading to communism right where she came from originally.

It's good that you're asking all the right questions on what an immigration system is supposed to be for and what the overall objectives should be. There's another one that no one wants to talk about - the need for immigration to prevent our population from a precipitous decline in future years due to our lower-than-replacement level birth rate. I live in Quebec, and the discussion on immigration is, well, surreal. The entire debate focuses on two things: overall numbers, and whether or not immigrants speak French when they arrive. No one talks about Quebec's coming demographic apocalypse, and what level of immigration the province needs just to keep the population even. Also, Immigration is a handy policy tool that politicians can wield with greater effect than, say, reducing grocery prices or the price of gasoline at the pump, where they are pretty impotent. It's a sad testimony on where our politics is.

its all about the housing at all costs, there is no way housing prices are coming down bailed out in the billions its a huge false driver to GDP from manufacturing of tubs, tubes and toilets to banking/insurance etc.. Thus, there is no way they want to put the reins on people dumping as well. As they print/borrow money and sell the country off to no end (bonds)

lots of cover ups going on now to hide the lies/deceit/deception failures/faults/flaws we have entered a new era of dressed up '3rd world like' and no one is even noticing the debt mounted and the great sell off occurring. They just covered up the reporting of government faults like Phoenix pay etc... Solomon and Carney past art deals, trusted sources -not certain lots of deception though, lots. Money blinds we fools so we won't even notice.
